Added Value of Limestone Batumilmil and Its Application in Industry

Abstract This study explains the added value of North Sumatra Langkat limestone and its derivative products. Limestone is classified as high calcium, characterized by calcium oxide (CaO) content 38.39% -55.84%, physical characteristics show dark gray color, dominant calcite, smooth, hard fossilized texture. So far, use in form chunks, especially a raw material for building which gives low to limestone. The 3 samples SK5, SK7 SK8 were calcined obtain quicklime hydrated lime products with different temperatures 900°C-1100°C. CaO increased 59.7% 66.08% respectively light white compared SK5 55.8% colored brownish gray. To produce lime, it done adding / soaking water (H2O) heat rate hydration (slaked). shows an optimum temperature increase 74.6°C 75 seconds 50.2°C 48°C at 900°C combustion temperature. transper occurs on outer side limestone, then spreads body. difference due presence mineral impurities non-uniform grain size so that obtained not perfectly distributed. such SiO2, Fe2O3, Al2O3 MgO contribute product reactivity these samples. Besides products, Batumilmil derived making ground carbonate (GCC). GCC fine mesh 60 - 400 ultrafine, quality bright color. from contributes selling various applications industrial sector.
